Eight years ago we took a leap and bought a farm on the wild west coast of Islay, beginning a new chapter together. I was lucky enough to grow up on this island, so for me it has been a joy to come home. My husband may not be Islay-born, but as a true west coast soul he has taken to island life as if he’d always belonged here.

Since then, we’ve worked hard to shape the farm into what it is today — renovating, repairing fences, improving the land and gradually bringing stock back where they belong. Our days are now shared with our cows and sheep, a goat, a handful of chickens, two loyal Collies and a well-fed cat who supervises everything.

From the beginning, we wanted to create more than just a farm. Our shop allows us to share what we produce here — our own beef and lamb, our wool and tweed — alongside my crochet and sewing, and a carefully chosen mix of gifts and good food. Life here may be remote, but it’s full: of neighbours, friends, and the many wonderful customers who make the journey to us.

We’ve built a life we’re proud of on this windswept edge of Islay, and we’re delighted to share a little of it with you.

Farm life at Windswept Farm Shop

  • We have around 150 sheep, we have cheviots, zwartbles and some cross bred sheep. This includes 5 tups (male sheep).

  • This varies but at the moment we have 15 breeding cows, 5 heifers who will breed next year. 4 bullocks who we have kept for beef for the farm shop.

We also have 11 calves on the farm just now.

  • We bought the farm in 2018 and have spent the last few years improving the land and stocking with livestock. We launched the farm shop in November 2024 as an outlet for our meat and wool products.
